Causes and Treatments for Diabetes #top

There are two types of diseases in this world. Some of them can be cured and some of them can only be managed. Diabetes is one of the leading diseases in the category of diseases that can only be managed. Diabetes is the elevation of blood sugar levels in the body. Diabetes mellitus or diabetes is a disorder of the pancreas. People might think that it is a lethal disorder. However, it isn't, if care is taken with proper diet and exercising habits.

Blood sugar level:

The tests for blood sugar levels for normal humans are of two types: the random blood sugar test and the fasting blood sugar test. Blood sugar is really important as it will give information about the person's hormone function or if there is problem with the sugar regulation system in the body.

How sugar in the blood is regulated:

There are many hormones in the body and most important of them are the hormones that regulate the sugar level in the blood. This is a class of hormone which includes insulin and glucagon. Insulin is the hormone that decreases the blood sugar level, which is also known as the blood glucose level. Glucagon is the hormone that increases the blood glucose level. The mechanism is really complex but the main thing that insulin does is that it increases the metabolism of the glucose in the blood and increases the conversion of the glucose into glycogen. This means that it will increase the storage of blood sugar and decrease the blood glucose level. Glucagon is the hormone that is also secreted by the pancreas and it has the opposite effect as compared to insulin. It increases the blood sugar level and decreases the sugar conversion into glycogen. This also promotes the conversion of glycogen into blood glucose.

What is diabetes?

Diabetes is the condition of the body in which there is a hormone disturbance and for some reason the sugar/glucose in the blood is high.

How diabetes occurs:

There are many known, and some unknown, factors that can facilitate or cause this disease. Major factors are given below.

Genetics:

The most important factor that can cause disease is genetics. Genetics is really important since, if there is diabetes in the family, there is a greater risk that the children will also get the disease.

Body weight:

Body weight is a really important factor. If a person has a high amount of body fat, the receptors where the insulin will bind to lower blood sugar will become resistant, so this will increase the blood sugar levels as the insulin is not working well.

Drugs:

There are some drugs that will increase blood sugar levels. These drugs are really important for the treatment of certain disease, but they have the side effect of increasing the blood glucose level.

Types of the diabetes:

There are several types of this disease. The main type of diabetes is insulin dependent diabetes mellitus. This is the diabetes which will increase the blood sugar level by decreasing of the insulin in the blood. The other type of diabetes is non insulin dependent diabetes. This is the diabetes that is not dependent upon the release of insulin from the pancreas.

How diabetes is diagnosed:

The most important thing about diabetes is its symptoms. Diabetes gives many signs, if it is present in a person's body. The most important signs are polydipsia and polyurea. Polydipsia is the condition in which the subject feels more thirst than normal. Polyurea is the condition in which the subject will urinate more than normal. Once these signs appear, the disease is suspected and this is confirmed by taking the blood glucose level. If the blood glucose value is taken for weeks and it is out of the normal range, then the diabetes is confirmed.

Treatment:

The treatment options are of many types. The patients can use insulin, sulfonyl ureas and other diabetic drugs. The most important is the insulin and it is only available in the form injection. The sulfonyl ureas are the drugs that can be taken orally. Some over the counter supplements are believed to help lower blood glucose. It is believed that anti-inflammatory pills like turmeric curcumin extract may have a posivite impact in preventing some diseases to develop, but the jury is still out as far as proving it scientifically without a doubt. It remains to be seen if there are for sure any turmeric curcumin benefits for people health, but many people like to try it. One thing is sure though, this product has been used for centuries in Asia for its medicinal properties.

Complications of diabetes:

This is a disease that can be called the mother of all diseases as it can cause many other illnesses. The first disease that diabetes can cause is heart disease. If the blood sugar is uncontrolled, this can lead to abnormal blood sugar, which can affect the heart and the blood vessels so that the vessels and the heart become less resistant to the changes in their environment. This can lead to heart attack and many blood vessel diseases. This can also affect the kidneys as the high blood sugar level will alter the reabsorption of water and other nutrients in the blood and cause kidney disease. It can also make the blood thick and can cause ischemic heart and also ischemic kidney diseases. This will also affect the nerves and can cause neuropathy. This can also cause a really problematic condition which is called silent heart attack. This is a disease in which the patients have nerve damage so that they will not feel pain, if they have a heart attack. There is also a condition which is called diabetic foot. This is the disease in which the feet of the patients with diabetes will become vulnerable to damage and, when the patient's foot is wounded, either due to an accident or some other health issue, the wound will take a long time to heal or it will not heal at all. Diabetes can also cause hemophilia. This is the disease that occurs as a result of problems with the liver. The patient with diabetes will have a faulty liver so he will not be able make the blood proteins and also the blood clotting factors and, in the end, this will cause hemophilia. Last but not the least is eye disease. Diabetes can cause near sightedness or far sightedness, if the blood sugar levels are not in the normal range.
